January 25, 1990 at 9:34 p.m. - Avianca Flight 52 from Bogota, Columbia enroute to Kennedy Airport crashed in Cove Neck, NY.  Seventy-three people on board died, but amazingly eighty-five survived.  Firefighters and law enforcement members from all of Long Island and NYC assisted in the rescue and recovery efforts.
